[Peugeot-L] More on the NHTSA and the history of import restrictions

I alluded to Mercedes-Benz involvement in US legislative changes. More can be found on this topic here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NHTSA

Other interesting items are the frequent head buts with French manufactures and the DOT/NHTSA.

Citroen had issues with turning headlights, and hydropnematic suspension. I was also told once, that Ralph Nader's liking of the Citroen DS was a death-knell to the car in the USA.

There was something regarding Peugeot and bumpers, but I cannot locate it.

Here is the quote about the Citroen SM:
"Also in 1974, NHTSA banned the Citroen SM automobile, which contemporary journalists noted was one of the safest vehicles available at the time, due to a non-safety related design issue. The law under which the SM was banned was repealed in 1981. Ford reintroduced a similar powered suspension system to the US market in 1988 in one of its Lincoln models."
