[Peugeot-L] Re: 86 505TD Starting Problem - help please - Final post

I am glad you got it.
Since you would like to help others before they might follow a red herring I will share this.
I have been troubleshooting mechanicals & electronics for many many years, and it is kind of quirky that of all the techniques and fancy equipment at my disposal I still use the WCFT (Well Calibrated Finger Tip.) Malfunctioning parts often run hotter than properly functioning parts. The idea is to think about how something could have gotten to a fault condition. Check & test ideas or hypothesis. For instance: What led up to the fault condition? In circuit board troubleshooting I would always tell the newbie to look for the charred components first. Hey what the heck look for an easy explanation right away, it should save time in the end. In the case of starter problems nine times out of ten it is the battery terminals, next the cables are suspect if for no other reason than they are super easy to test, put known good jumper cables directly from a known good battery to the engine ground and the positive terminal on the starter. Notice I say known good. Very important. I have wasted untold hours because one of my testers was off or giving wrong readings. Again this can happen if we do not think about what we are looking for. Science lab 101 stuff. Anyway I hope this helps. troubleshooting can be fun, I like it better than wrenchin, that's why I got good at it I guess. Sincerely,
Brioan Rodgers
