It is, I believe, a totally bogus diagnosis
Is there juice in and out of the dash rheostat under the steering column?

fine: starting, headlights, cabin lights, etc.
The mechanic thinks I may have a failing alternator because my
dash lights have ceased to work.
Bogus?
I have to pick it up today and any advice would be greatly
appreciated.
