I'm supposed to take my wife on a day trip tomorrow and need a quick answer from someone on this:
79 604 SL. I noticed that one of the hoses to the Solex carb. is not attached to a metal pipe. The pipe is a 90 degree pipe wiht two openings, near the rear carbs; one opening is vertical, the other is horizontal. There's a rubber hose (vacuum apparently) that feeds through the air filter cover and appears to go on the horizontal pipe. I mean it is the right length and otherwise would just attach to nothing and sit next to the pipe. Does it matter whether the hose is attached to the pipe?
(There's another pipe (vertical) forward of this double pipe near the front carb. Nothing's attached to that either, but there's no hose in sight for that one.
My 604 shop manual is at my mechanic's who is trying to work on my 604 GTI.
Somebody shoot me an answer ASAP so I can take my wife out tomorrow. Every time we go somewhere in this car it breaks down and she's insisting I sell it. I won't sell it, but she will make life miserable for me.
