I'm just throwing this out into the alternative Peugeot universe,
hoping that there may be an inveterate P-enthusiast out there with
too much time on his (her?) hands, willing to offer some advice to a
complete neophyte.
My wife and I are considering getting an old Peugeot because of what
I keep hearing about the "legendary ride," and comfortable seats.
She has back/hip problems, and we need a cruiser for day trips that
won't leave her feeling like a wreck. How would you compare a 70's
504 (can't get excited by anything that doesn't still resemble the
Columbo-car, unless it's maybe a 505 wagon) to, say, an older
Mercedes E-series, assuming both have been kept up? 10-15 yrs. old,
Onnot w/ the new airmatic (out of our price-range). Also assuming we
may need/want to replace some old coils (rebuild struts w/ air
cartridges?). And will there necessarily be a lot of vibrations from
the engine in one that old?
Just to let you know how urgent it is: a broker keeps trying to sell
us a Chrysler Town & Country. Hoping that Peugeot can save us from
that fate (not that there's anything wrong with that…).
