I had a new Town and Country wagon in the 80's. Very stiff, uncomfortable ride. 504 has a very smooth ride, event the wagons. Having learned the hard way, I'll always stick with Peuget OEM shocks and strut inserts. Nothing else seems to work on these cars. Have the mechanic re-build old Peugeot-brand shocks - mine keept throwing them out and putting on aftermarket. Even Konis suck on these cars.

Even when they were new, the Chrysler Town & Country had more vibrations and
squeeky rides than a wore out 504. I used to hate doing PDIs on those
things.

Subject: [Peugeot-L] Peugeot's legendary ride?
I'm just throwing this out into the alternative Peugeot universe,
hoping that there may be an inveterate P-enthusiast out there with
too much time on his (her?) hands, willing to offer some advice to a
complete neophyte.
My wife and I are considering getting an old Peugeot because of what
I keep hearing about the "legendary ride," and comfortable seats.
She has back/hip problems, and we need a cruiser for day trips that
won't leave her feeling like a wreck. How would you compare a 70's
504 (can't get excited by anything that doesn't still resemble the
Columbo-car, unless it's maybe a 505 wagon) to, say, an older
Mercedes E-series, assuming both have been kept up? 10-15 yrs. old,
not w/ the new airmatic (out of our price-range). Also assuming we
may need/want to replace some old coils (rebuild struts w/ air
cartridges?). And will there necessarily be a lot of vibrations from
the engine in one that old?
Just to let you know how urgent it is: a broker keeps trying to sell
us a Chrysler Town & Country. Hoping that Peugeot can save us from
that fate (not that there's anything wrong with that.).
Thanks for any and all responses!
And Happy 4th!
Colin
