[Peugeot-L] 204/304 engine differences?

From: Senen Racki <Senen_at_racki.ca>

Can anyone tell me if an engine from a 304 is a drop-in replacement for a 204? I know the 304 engine got a bit more cc, but is it otherwise physically the same? The reason I ask is that I have located a brand-spanking-new Peugeot crate engine for a 304 and we have a 204 due for restoration this winter. We have a 304 parts car (stored offsite, hence the info request) that the missing parts can be taking from (water pump, carb, flywheel, etc), so that's not a concern if it's different from the 204. Price is unknown at this time, but will likely be very reasonable. If I pass, anyone else interested?

Senen.
