It depends on whether the 204 is a late or early car.
The early ones had a different system of motor mounts, there were 3 mounts
that were on the trans the later were like the 304
at the top on the sides and at the bottom of the transmission pan
You might be able to still get it in but maybe not

Can anyone tell me if an engine from a 304 is a drop-in replacement for a 204? I know the
304 engine got a bit more cc, but is it otherwise physically the same? The reason I ask
is that I have located a brand-spanking-new Peugeot crate engine for a 304 and we have a
204 due for restoration this winter. We have a 304 parts car (stored offsite, hence the
info request) that the missing parts can be taking from (water pump, carb, flywheel, etc),
so that's not a concern if it's different from the 204. Price is unknown at this time,
but will likely be very reasonable. If I pass, anyone else interested?
