(1) Please, what is "IIRC"?
(2) All this about rear negative camber:
The post about weak, under engineered, rear-end trailing arms:
My 1975 504 D had best ride imaginable for a moderate size car. Three other men and I went over a series of bumps in Irving, Texas (near Dallas) with the man living on the street who owned a Cadillac screaming for me to go slow. I ignored him, car did not bottom, no sweat.
However, there is a price to pay; recent post indicated that frame may have been beefed-up in later 504 to handle additional weight of heavy, ugly, black bumpers, resulting in harsher ride: We were standing still in traffic, foot on brake, car in neutral, were rear-ended at about five miles an hour, pushing 504 into Honda 600 (the car that alerted us to Honda quality), minor damage to Honda, slight bumper damage in front to 504, a bit more to rear bumper but nothing bad noticeable on rear of 504.
We had it checked out for alignment. The frame had jackknifed up at area of rear footwell, just in front of rear seat. It was weak and in my opinion, under engineered. The hit was a soft hit, the frame was too weak; there was no need for a collapse to absorb kinetic energy. The car or frame was bent into straight on a bed designed for this.
No car is perfect, Peugeots included, but the ride was superb, my 1979 604, V6, five speed even better.
Anyone buying a now old Peugeot in the United States or Canada should have a four wheel alignment and frame check.
Regards,
Bernie
