On both cars, how old are the spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor & ignition
wires? Start with the basics, especially if you don't know the car.
On the STX, your clutch proplem is more than likely the clutch pushrod is
worn out at the pedal and is about to fail, that would cause the rough
shifting also. The heater fan is probably the relay/module on the right rear
of the right front inner fender behind the insulation that is shorted out, a
little finicky to get to.
There might be some wear on the shifter rods to cause the play, there are
also bushings on the shifter arm pivot.
