Tomorrow I plan on changing the brake proportioning valve on my 84 505
STI sedan. The old one leaks. In addition, I have trouble getting the
e-brake to catch and on hills, with the e-brake on full it doesn't
quite do it. The pads are good and properly installed (re: slot in
ratcheting mechanism). I have adjusted the e-brake cable nuts in as
far as they can go to take out any slack.
My questions are:
1. Am I supposed to hang some sort of weight on the lever below the
proportioning valve for an adjustment and, if so, how much weight,
where and what is the adjustment procedure.
2. Is there a way to check the ratcheting devices on the rear to see
if they are truly functional and, if so, what is that way.
Thanks,
Ken
