The rear brake compensation valve is hooked up to the torsion bar. When
you are playing with it, it is important to have the car at kerb weight.
Kerb weight = with spare wheel and full tank of fuel.
Car must be on wheels, in normal ride position (ie rolled
forward/backward after coming down off a jack), suggested over a pit or
on ramps.
Attach a 5kg (11lb) weight to the long arm at the notch just below the
spring from the torsion bar attachment.
fully push in the compensator piston
Adjust the screw below the compensator to correct clearance with 0.8 mm
(0.032 in) feeler gauge for disc brakes, 1.3 to 1.8mm (0.051 to 0.071
in) for drum brake models.
If you didn't fill the fuel tank, use a thicker feeler gauge by 0.2mm
(0.008 in)
Note: doesn't apply to ABS or wagon models.
Also, this will not affect the handbrake.
For that, check that the levers on the inside of the calipers are
returning fully, Often the cables are tightened too much in an effort to
get the brake to work better, and this stops auto adjustment from
working, Slacken the cables right off, push the levers fully in, put the
foot brakes on hard a couple of times, then adjust the handbrake cable.
If the levers don't return, you need to service the piston (which
according to Peugeot is no user serviceable parts inside, however,
according to me there are :)
