[Peugeot-L] 405 DL TEMP SENSOR PLUGS QUESTIONS

What's the plug just below the NTC sensor plug on a 91 405 XU9J2? This is on the rear of the engine, left side of the head/block as you sit in the car and just left of the dipstick tube. What I think is the NTC sensor has a wire retainer and pulled this plug and cleaned the terminals as I was having some erratic cooling fan problems & irregular AC operation. The unknown plug in question is about 1-1/2 in. below the NTC sensor connector. Is it a separate plug for the water temperature gauge readout? It has two wires attached. One of the wires may be damaged and repaired and I may want to revisit it in the future. It is really hard to work on the back side on an engine that is slanted backwards!

After cleaning the NTC plug my AC/cooling fans seem to work normal, but my temperature gauge did not read at all until I had gone a mile, then suddenly it rose up to a normal 175 F. Looks like I may have fixed one problem only to create another.
