[Peugeot-L] Re: 505 turbo 86 intermittent working starter

All of that is good info.

I put one on that is shaped like the old one's Ford used to use.

I drew the power from the hot wire on the starter (the one that the battery cable is attached to and that has the big nut).

I found a dandy location for mounting- where the vacuum control unit for the cruise control connects (near the coil and strut tower). (turbo). It has two small studs and two 8mm nuts. I took a piece of metal strip, the kind that have predrilled holes, about 1/2" in width by about 4" in length, and mounted it under that cruise vacuum unit, so that it is sticking out, going toward the rear of the car. Then I attached my relay to that. That way I didn't have to drill any holes in the car, and there was plenty of room for the relay.

That location was nice, because I was able to take the solenoid wire coming out of the firewall (the one that triggers the solenoid and goes back to the key switch) and connect it to my relay without cutting or lengthening). Plus the power lead does not need to be that long, as it is coming from the starter.

Then it was just a matter of running a new trigger wire from the relay to the solenoid, and then a ground.

I remember when I was a tire buster right out of high school and I was working at the local auto center at the time. I was driving a '68 Mercury Park Lane. Fastest car I ever had, but really sucked the gas.

Anyway, it was a very cold day, and they were trying to get ahold of me to come into work because they were busy with people needing batteries and things. My car wouldn't start. I told my boss what the car was doing, where it wouldn't crank or anything. He said to take a screwdriver and short the two small terminals at the top of the relay. Car started right up. What had happened was, the neutral safety switch on the steering column had failed, where the plastic had broken off while in drive.
