I've done many front wheel drive CV joints and whole
half shafts, and I've never seen one without some
way
to attach them. Some have a snap ring that you have
to remove. As for as them falling out, the end of
the
axle won't actually fall out of the joint; but most
will come out of the inner bearing cage they're
inserted in and will no longer transmit power to the
wheels-instead you will hear the sound of splines
slipping on splines(almost like automatic trannys
without a fully engaged park pawl). Of course, this
is French and may be completely different.
