RE: [Peugeot-L] 604 to 504 suspension swap

A huge thanks for the info, Brian and Kevin. I will put it to good use. Kevin: A hill climb car must corner as if on rails (wider track, 604), spends nearly all the time in second and third gear (the BA7/4 gearing works ok, 35% rev reduction when you shift from second to third, 30% would be better to keep you at high torque after shifting), and typically goes to 70 mph really fast but tops out at 90 mph or so (that's why I am after the shorter diff like a J from a 505 STI or preferably an even shorter one from a 504 SW or PU). Oh yeah, and braking would be good, the vented discs from a 505 turbo or 604 with high pressure tubing.

Thanos,
I have put a 504 diff into both a 505 and a 604 before. The 505 2.0 K-ket acquired a 504 injection diff (same ratio), and the 604 carb got a 504 carb diff (revs higher at same speed now). Both of these would have been bolt in, however the 505 had the different

mounting system that was used for a very short time, so I had to drill three holes to make the normal mount plate bolt to the crossmember.

I haven't measured, but I think that the increased track on the 604 was achieved by using a larger bearing carrier. Based on this, it seems that

if you unbolt the 604 rear hub from the suspension arm (ie wheel off, remove brake calliper, and undo four allen key bolts behind disc), and remove it complete with the driveshaft, you should be able to bolt it into the 504 and end up with a wider track.

Not sure what you are after for a hill climb car, higher top speed or faster acceleration?
