In 1970 the sunroof added $40 to the cost of a 404 Sedan for overseas delivery.
It was the same mechanism as the 504.
They haven't made a decent sunroof since.
With each suceeding model the sunroofs get more complicated, more prone to failure,
and cost more to fix both in parts and in time to replace the busted junk they are made
from.
The 404-504 roofs used to bust a threadded rod ever so rarely it cost 40 cents and took
about 20 min to replace.
The 505 cable was over $100 and took major effort.
The 405 sliders, cables and several domahfrickies for $200-300 and takes a day if you
have a photographic memory and the patience of Jobe.
If this trend continues I may have to join AA or AQ or the SPCA
In so far as converting a 505 to manual operation with 504 parts...not possible.
You can operate the 505 roof manually if you pull the trim panel and disconnect the cable.
