[Peugeot-L] Steam cleaning inside of engine, auto revving in N

Sometime back, Rabin suggested cleaning the inside of the inlet manifold by squirting water into it.
In the past, I have heard of doing a similar thing, but using diesel.

I want to do this on a ZEJ K-jet engine that I suspect of having too much gunk built up on the inside of the inlet manifold and on the injectors. Any comment on which would be better, water or diesel, or both alternating?

Also, there was mention of problems with reving up the 4HP22 gearbox past 1500 in neutral, has anyone got more info on that and if the 3HP22 has the same problems?
I will need to rev the engine to do the clean, and also they seem about to start doing it as part of the six monthly inspection,

Thanks.
Kevin
