  BMW uses the same transmissions in their early cars,

  and these transmissions are different in that they   use all clutches and no bands. As they age, there is   leakage and the clutches don't completely disengage;

  so if they're reved above (some sources say 2,000RPM)
  the clutches will burn and your transmission will no   longer work. This occurs in park or neutral and   affects both the 3HP and 4HP. I have seen this occur   as a mechanic friend once reved up a BMW in park to   charge an AC system faster, and after he was finished
  the car wouldn't move.
