Hey group-
I have been really happy communting in the 1980 505 SD (XD2) that I
bought. I get 30 mpg, it's comfy, and I'm keeping wear and tear off
Onof my treasured Mi16. However, the engine is the 505 is very very
worn out, and I'm getting a little worried about it.
It makes even less horsepower than it should, and it burns huge
amounts of oil. I'd say it uses a quart of 15-40 for every tank of
gas (about 400-450 miles). Most of this comes out of the breather
tube as smoke. As soon as the motor warms up, it starts pouring
smoke out like an old two stroke dirtbike on a bad day.
I drive it very gently, and never exceed 65 MPH. At this speed, it
is glass-smooth and you can barely hear the engine at all. It's even
smooth at idle.
Are there any good additives I can put in the oil to at least cut
back on the oil consumption? If I do have to rebuild it, is there a
source of oversize pistons and rings? The rest of the motor seems so
good, I'd probably just stick with pistons, rings and valve seals.
Mileage would hopefully go up too.
Thanks!
