Richard is the Puegeot lover (fanatic) in our house, and when he's home from work later today he'll probably add his two cents, but in the meantime I'll tell you what I know...
We poked a hole in the rad of our TD505 wagon last week, just before leaving on a 12-hour drive into the wilderness for a camping trip (and 12 hours home again, of course). Naturally, the drive entailed driving over the Rocky Mountains in the middle of summer!
Unable to find/afford a replacement rad in time, Richard used LOTS of flux and simply soldered over the hole. It seemed to work -- no leaks during the trip. We did have some overheating issues (didn't actually overheat but the temp soared and the light came on), so we probably have a secondary issue with the thermostat or something. We managed to limp along by driving with the heater on full blast (very enjoyable during the summer heat!) and by not pushing the car too hard.
In a pinch, it seems like solder does the trick.
Good luck!
Louise

Subject: [Peugeot-L] 1980 505 SD radiator needed
Hey group-
On my way to work today, the temperature on my 1980 505 SD (XD2) shot
up and the coolant warning light came on. I pulled right over and
found that the power steering pump bolt had backed out and poked a
nice big hole in the radiator. I was able to kind of mash the hole
shut with the bolt, refill it and limp it home so I could take the
Mi16 to work.
So does anyone have a good used radiator for sale that will work in my
car? Western Hemispheres has a new one, but I can't really afford
almost 400 bucks right now. Anyone had any experience with re-coring a
radiator? Thanks...
