After much advice from here, my 405 is in the process of having it's axle
replaced. Eleven years of corrosion has made this job a little more involved
than I would have liked.
I have taken the old trailing arm from the axle member to show the trailing arm
bearings with the intent to take a couple of photos. I won't have the
opportunity to make any photos available before the end of the weekend at
least.
What is in the trailing arm I disassembled is, in order; a roller bearing race
at the end of the axle, deep inside the trailing arm, a nylon sleeve, a lot
of rust (I am assuming it is meant to be another bearing race) and a seal
between the trailing arm and the axle assembly.
I'll also take a couple of happy snaps when I have tapped grease nipples
into the trailing arms of the replacement assembly.
Simon
P.S. Is it a sign that when you go to the wreckers, you get bits from newer,
lower mileage cars? (It is not like this is a one off incident either!).
