It's been so long since I worked on these cars that I
hesitate to put my two cents worth in, but I don't
think these glow plugs ground to the head. Instead
they are in series which is why you'll see the
insulation between the two cable attachment points on
the glow plugs; and why if one burns creating an open,
the other
glow plugs won't work. Also, I'm not sure if this
affects your car or not; but they did have two types
of glow plugs, one of which had a quicker warm-up
time. You also have to make sure you didn't blow any
fuses or cause a problem in the timer unit. I'm not
positive, but it's a black plastic box mounted in the
center of the firewall right behind the engine; and it
has a pretty heavy guage wire(red?) going into it that
puts alot of stress on the internal board that it's
bolted to with a 10mm head nut. Sometimes you have to
play with the way it's attached in order to straighten
the board and make eveything work properly. If you
look
at it and it's warped, you'll see the problems and it
will be obvious what you have to do. I would also
check
your fuses as I don't remember if they have one in the
main panel or one in the timer box, or if they have
one of those strip type fuses that looks like a little
wrench mounted between the box and the glow plugs on
the main wire covered by a little black connector box.
You can follow the wire from the timer box to the glow
plugs; and if there's a little box mounted with a
cover
that snaps open and has one of those strip fuses in
it,it will be obvious if it's blown. If so, then you
will have to replace it. I also think that there's a
temp sensor that tells the timer box how long to leave
the glow plugs on; and if that's bad, it can cause the
glow plugs not to work properly.
