Forgot to mention....I was in Europe (Amsterdam/Brussels) for 3 days
at the end of May. Had a rental car through Hertz....some Opel
Astra or something. Not that I was too thrilled with driving a
'European Chevrolet', I asked for anything else they said no.
I walked out to the lot and found sitting there a wonderfully blue
307 SW. I asked the lot attendant if I could have that one
instead. After some begging, I got it.
So I had 3 days in Europe including driving between
Amsterdam/Brussels in the 307 SW. My thoughts...
OnNice driving car, handles like MAD! I mean really....a bone stock,
economy car and you could throw it into exit ramps with ease. It
had a nice black interior, kinda felt like a Golf inside a bit...but
just slightly different to let you know you weren't in a
Volkswagen. The first thing I noticed once outside in the sunshine
was the amount of light that comes into the cabin. After a while I
realized why. The ENTIRE roof was glass. All the way back to the
rear of the car. That feature was quite awesome.
As far as power, this was a gas car (not sure of the displacement)
and was quite slow. Or maybe I'm used to my 4.4 V8 6-speed in my BMW
or my 2.7 V6 twin-turbo 6-speed in my Allroad. Either way, the 307
with this engine wasn't the fastest thing on the block, but it did ok
enough.
All in all, I think Peugeot could be very successful selling this car
in the states given its features, its looks and its pedigree. Not
sure if Peugeot could sell them inexpensively enough though for as to
make it worthwhile (read profitable.) but certainly the car is good
enough for the US market by far.
