[Peugeot-L] Re: '89 Mi16 AC Problems

Though this is connected in a rather round-about way to the discussion in progress, I would like to know something about my own 405 GLD Aircon..

  1. When the outside temperature is not very hot, the blower fan at full speed turns slowly first (for varying periods of time on varying occassions) and then automatically increases speed to full.
  2. When the outside is very hot, sometimes the blower fan works at full speed right from the beginning or sometimes as mentioned in para 1.
  3. Recently, I have observed that maybe the speed of the blower fan at FULL does not seem to be under my control at all, as sometimes in blistering heat (41 degrees celsius and car standing in the sun), the fan seems to be very leisurely and sometimes in the dead of night (maybe about 30 degrees or so), the blower works furiously.
  4. The switch for controlling 'recycled air' and 'fresh air' does not seem to have any effect.. Is it run by a motor? If so, how does one get to the motor to see if it is working? (I suspect that mine is stuck on 'fresh air' mode, as I keep getting smells from outside) How does one check if the switch is working?

What could be the issue? Something needs cleaning? And how does one clean the condensor and where is the evaporator located and how to clean that? Please note that I won't be doing any of this myself, but I need to be able to explain to the mechanic how and where to look for things. There is also a filter located just under the bonnet on the bulkhead on the LHS which looks like t is supposed to clean the air that goes in... how does one look after that?

Thanks in advance for any insights....
