Hello Everyone,
On the always sound advice of Brian Holm (hi, Brian!), I've joined the group
in hopes of moral support in my quest to keep my beloved Peugeot on the
road.
I purchased my 505 in Dallas, TX, brought it to Atlanta in 1990 and have
been with quite a few great mechanics over the years from Atlanta to
Charlotte keeping it maintained. Despite its 300k+ miles, it has required
no more than regular maintenance and normal parts replacement (alternator,
starter, water pump, tires, shocks, struts, etc.). Its never burned oil and
the engine still purrs like a kitten. I regularly put between 150-200 miles
on it per week. I recently took it in to the shop I've used for the past
year for fluid change and the mechanic there (who is familiar with Peugeots)
told me I had coolant leaking into the engine block requiring head gasket,
and possibly liner, replacement. This was after I had the radiator flushed
and the only visible evidence of a problem is that I've now got a small
amount of oil surfacing in the coolant overflow jar -- no visible
condensation on valves or in oil, no engine overheat. Head gasket may or
may not be the problem, but I definitely need to get it checked before
damage is done to my engine -- which I believe could run forever! This
mechanic however doesn't feel comfortable doing major repair work on this
car.
I love my Peugie and really hate the thought of retiring this car simply
because I can't find a local mechanic. Any referral would be deeply
appreciated. Thanks all.
