First off bikes are great transportation. btw, I just picked up a non
emmision, low fuel using "ride" of my own, it's called a skateboard!
anyhow on a more serious note. That study cited is majorly flawed.
If you want to read about it, there are some links from this thread
which just happens to be, imo, the most knowledgable board stateside
having to do with bioD and SVO.

It's a long thread, but plenty of good links. The basic idea is that
this another one of those "studies" that were funded by the fossil
fuel industry!
Charles and Gary you both make some good points, but one thing to bear
in mind, replacing oil won't be done by any ONE new source of energy.
Just read snappy quote in National Geographic article about replacing
oil - "Oil will be relaced by Congress not King" or somethign to that
effect. So yes, Biking and Nuclee-er will be part of the solution.
I wholeheartedly agree with the comment abut Iraq and securing oil.
How is it that we can afford 200 billion for a war for oil (which has
only increased the price of oil) and we can't afford more research
into alternative fuels. I would wager that had we pumped 200 billion
into funding for research we would have come a long way into solving
our ever increasing energy needs...the long view isn't the strength of
current admin or past for that matter.
