This makes numerous times that I've heard in this
forum about weak cooling systems on Peugeot, yet we
had a dealership in New Orleans which is extremely
hot and humid and had no problems whatsoever. As a
matter of fact, the 505 was one of the first cars
I remember that had extra electric fans to supplement
the radiator fan. And Peugeot provided the optional
locking of the fan clutch if the electromagnetic fan
clutch stopped functioning. It's just like the
Renault
LeCar which had an excellent cooling system but when
a fan belt broke and people drove it until the head
gasket blew, they branded the car weak in the cooling
system. Admittedly, it blew head gaskets more quickly
than alot of cars; but the Peugeots didn't. Alfa
Romeo
also had a bad reputation for overheating, but in
reality they ran fairly cool. I assume that
reputation
came from head gaskets that began to mix oil and
water
not because of overheating, but because of O rings
that sealed the oil passages between the head and
block would lose their resiliency. I just wish these
old wives' tales would get started by the experts and
be accurate than get started by people who really
don't understand the nature of the beast.
