Re: [Peugeot-L] 86 505 Turbo: Transmission oil question

The first trip I made with my 505 TD was towbarring a 405 from Walla Walla to Winnipeg a good 1400 mi. I checked the trans in Seattle where I bought the TD and topped it up with the suggested 10-40 engine oil. When I got home the trans was a bit noisy I changed to syn and it was quieter I tow now with a dolly, add another 500 lb but I will never put 10-40 in a 505 trans again even if it isn't towing

  Bob,

75-90 synthetic gear oil eh? Sounds good, I like synthetic. I recently put   synthetic in my CX 500 Honda motorcycle (26 years old) and it started   shifting much smoother, very noticeable. That sold me.

Is it really ok to have that fancy stuff in that old and worn, kind of noisy   5 speed manual transmission of mine? I heard from a good mechanic that   regular 10-40 was actually the most beneficial.

Any other opinions out there as well?

I use 75-90 synthetic gear oil in all my cars 405s and 505s   It shifts fine at -35F
I have been using this for years
I tow cars on a tow dolly with my XD2S TD last summer   a 505 SW from St Louis home 1200 mi
  I swear by the stuff
I use a generic brand by a local bottler Mobile 1 would be the same   Bob
