My own experience: I used Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil in my 505
manual transmission. I think it killed it because the oil is
superior at penetration. It penetrated itself right out of my
transmissions and fried my synchros. I put regular oil back in and
ran it another year before I found a used tranny for replacement. I
usually run motor oil with a large amount of Lucas oil stabilizer.
the Lucas stuff helps with the noise and smoothness of shifting.
