Assuming you are France citizen and trying to bring the car into USA,
you can do that without any modification to your car but for ONLY 1
year and after that you have to export the car or distroy it. YOu
can't sell it to anyone either.
How do you find out if it conforms to US specification or not? First,
short answer is your 206 does not conforms to the US federal/DOT/EPA
specifications. There is no reason for Peugeot to spend millions of
dollor to modify and test to meet the US crash/EPA standard if they
have no intension to sell the car in US. Plus if your car meets the
specification it would have a lable attached to the body that reads
something like "this car meets all US DOT crash standard etc".
How do you make your car "conforms"? It can be done but at a huge
cost. Unless Peugeot can write you a official letter saying that the
206 body structure is fundamentally designed to meet the US crash
standard, it can't be just modified but you will have to supply
several cars for DOT to crash test them. After passing the crash test,
you have to spend $$$$ to modify other necessary stuffs. And then you
need to supply several engines to EPA to have them test the emission.
This whole process costs huge money and time and only a big company
intending to import and sell hundreds of cars in US can do this.
So I would say forget about it. US law is made so that no one besides
car manufacturer can import cars into USA.
