Haven't had this sort of problem on the early 505s, just the series II 505s, especially the V6.
Insulation is fine, the problems seem to be concentrated on poor connections between the wires and the terminals on the ends. Doesn't seem to be related to the Douvrin engines, as the ZEJKs are fine, but the late XN1s aren't.
