Canšt specifically address the 1984, but with my 1987 505 the tank comes out
pretty easily through the trunk. Jim Lill once said he could do it in 10
minutes, although I wonder why he had to remove the tank enough times to get
that experience. For patching leaks, I once used 2 part epoxy on the
outside of a Volvo 164e fuel tank, after draining it; it lasted for many
years.
