That there is such a thing as a US fluid ounce as distinct from an Imperial fluid ounce is news to me and to most everybody else on this planet.
A fluid ounce is 1 cubic inch and if it is occupied with distilled water at 0 C it weighs an ounce.
There is a Troy ounce that is used for measuring precious metals like gold and silver which weighs 30 grams unlike an ounce of everything else which weighs about 1.5 grams less
This is why an Imp gallon of water weighs 10 lb i.e. 160 oz 16 oz to the lb.
So a 128 oz US gallon of water weighs 8 lb.
