I guess I have to admit that age is making me
approach
things quite differently, and I'm now more content to
enjoy my drive and not care about how fast the other
guys are. Also, new cars are getting damn powerful
without tubos; but I'm not saying that guys who like
them and are willing to accept the negatives should
get rid of them because of my opinion. I was just
getting something off of my chest, and forgetting
just how much fun those cars can be to drive. I'll
never forget driving an early Porsche turbo(911
Turbo)
which only had a 4 speed that went to 70mph in first;
and when the turbo kicked in, you barely had time to
shift into 2nd. Wow! I do understand, but I would
rather a way to get that performance without all the
downsides. That opinion has also been created by many
years of working on cars professionally and having to
deal with so many hard to work on cars that you just
don't want any more hassles. That's a very unique
perspective because you're working on many cars every
day, not just your own car on the occasional weekend.
I really care about cars I've owned though, and don't
like the idea that my car is paying for my fun. In
other words,it really makes me nervous to be driving
something that is self-destructing. I guess working
with machinery as a way of life makes you have a
unique respect for the machinery itself above all
else. Again, I really wasn't trying to convert anyone
to my point of view as much as espouse another side
of the to turbo or not to turbo question.
