My dad & I have been into Turbos for over 30 yrs now (albeit American V-8's) and I can agree with what Rabin has to say. There are companies out there that have made Turbo charging a science as shown here:

My Dad's current "Play Toy" is setup with twin Turbos. It's a 1960 F100 Style side PU that we put a built 472 Cadillac into. We are running unlimited boost (we keep an eye on the boost gauge) and we drive it on the street. (Ultimate sleeper?)
My "Play Toy" is a 1970 Ralley 350 Olds with a 350DX (1981 up GM Diesel) block and crank using the 1970 70cc heads, after market blower pistons yielding 8.5 compression.
Also twin Turbos.
To say that these are slow does not know them.
