Weigh that against the alternatives used to extract more power from an engine like variable valve timing, multivalve and multi-cam motors, etc. Turbos in diesels are a whole 'nother matter.

That said, I love my turbo car. It's also got what amounts to a tractor motor (8 valve single OHC four banger), so the turbo doesn't complicate matters much. Of course when you take such an ancient, overbuilt motor and add a turbo... stuff doesn't break too often. So far I've yet to have a turbo related failure on any of my Volvos.

Peugeot-wise I'm a big fan of the XD2S in the 505s, and while I don't think it's horribly slow, I can't imagine it sans turbo. OTOH, I'll probably never own an N9T powered 505... but as fuel prices creep up I've started scanning the classified ads for 505 turbodiesels more and more. While a turbo'd V6 would be fun, there's no way I'd ever work on (and thus own) one.
