[Peugeot-L] Renewing metallic strip in door trim of 505

Has anyone come up with a good solution for replacing or renewing the metallic strip embedded within the band of rubber sections that are attached to the doors and fenders of 505 models?

Like many 505s I have seen, mine is not so much silver these days as it is a rusty, uneven bronze sort of color.
