The thing I don't like about the turbo is the poor mileage. There really is
no good reason why the car should get V8 mileage. Sure, you can milk it and
get fair-to-bad mileage. I get what everybody else gets: 19-21 city, 28+
highway - when driving like a grandma.
Other than that, a turbo is the only way to go. Once you've been in a car
that pulls HARD, it's like going from a XN6 wagon to a N9TEA. Prior to my
introduction to "real" turbo cars (Supras), the only time I ever got pushed
back into the seat that hard was with a built big-block 396 Camaro a buddy
of mine built up. I'm stock and the car is a well balanced driver's car.
But, I look forward to building up a nasty N9T - WITH ARP STUDS!
Modern engines are so great. Unlike my old greaser buddy's car, these
engines can idle all day in traffic and be entirely civilized. The better
cars usually have air conditioning and other "old man" features that just
weren't practical on old school cars. And, rather than being limited to
1-hp/cu-in, you can have much more if you've got the money to play.
I love the my 505 and if I gernade the engine, I'll do what it takes to fix
it. If parts are a no-go, I'll drop another carmaker's turbo engine into
it. Shouldn't happen though. I'm pretty mellow with it. The only time I
can get a little agressive is with BMWs. They are the "natural enemy" of
the 505 and they usually need an attitude correction. Actually, I really
respect BMWs as they are pretty cool cars, but nothing is nicer than laying
waste to one. Deal is, not gonna happen with anything the far side of a 3
series with the stock N9T engine. That's the story with most modern luxury
cars. Don't mess with a Lexus400. They can easily cruise at 140MPH all
day. Acuras are also great cars. All that nutty stuff will happen later.
I could easily see me getting a XN6/ZDJL 505 or PRV as a cruiser/daily
driver. A nice alternative to my high-strung car. Can really see the
upside to a better ride and better reliability. Make the most of what you
got. There's a lot to enjoy with all models.
