and I was very lucky...right in the heart of Boston's
Back Bay, on Commonwealth Avenue with enough speed to
pull to the side to stop. It felt like the car didn't
quite make it into second gear....and then I had
nothing...no gears at all.
Car was towed to A1 Transmissions in Brookline
Village, which has a great reputation.
While I haven't heard back yet, I'm trying to diagnose
the issue. There was no gear lever resistance forward
and backward...Reverse went in but with no connection
and the lever would NOT go to the right...i.e. 5th
gear. A dead transmission would still have tension in
all the gears, right? The clutch pedal still had full
tension, as a broken clutch cable clip means that the
pedal falls to the floor right??
I'm praying that it was the shift linkage rods that
gave out...though they were both recently replaced.
2nd gear was always very notchy after they were
replaced, and I wonder if this last shift was the last
straw and there are two different shift linkage rods
on westernhemispheres.com. A snap type and a clip
type...wonder if I had the right one on?? Still,
that's two $40 parts and labor, versus a $2500
transmission...
Any thoughts anyone?
Best,and fingers crossed.
