Hello Alex,
yer brain: Only $40?
In the early 80s??, they told us it was ok to use a good dual filter
respirator with new filters (or maybe X times if stored in a sealed bag??)
to paint Centari with the hardener that contained iscyanates. They were
wrong. Some painters from then have serious brain or respiratory problems,
some are dead and some haven't found out about the cumulative effects.
3m has a respirator now some say is ok to use with iso s. I read what 3m
says about it and bought a full hood fresh air system.
Isocyanates are not in most paints but are in all or most all hardeners that
are added to automotive paint.
They DO enter the body through the skin and eyes.
A friend was managing a parts store and told me his line of paint and
hardener didn't have isocyanates.
Are you sure?
He called back and said sorry, I thought it didn't because it had some ??3-4
letter prefix added to isocyanate.
For the other shop stuff that I'm exposed to:
I try to remember to wear a respirator porting iron heads, grinding valve
seat inserts (don't remember what the nasty in them was that my engine
machinist warned me about.).
Some claim the reason I'm still in good health after all these years in
shops is that I eat good....organic gardening isn't just a hobby here.
Gotta remember to tell the grandson to wet down everything good when pulling
old brake drums.
I would have taken much better care of my body if I thought I'd live this
long...maybe I believed em when they said Hell on wheels, you won't make
16....then 21....then 30. By age 30, I'd survived all 3 of my dam good
crashes....1 street car, 1 race car and 1 rally car.
Trying really hard to avoid more head injuries!
Please do a search and read up on isocyanates!
I found this:
Think of isocyanate molecules in the air from the spraying process as
Pac-man gobbling up molecules of moisture in the air and on your body.
Isocyanate molecules are equally attracted to the moisture in your eyeballs
as they are to moisture around your mouth, nose, and ears. Thus the full
mask, gloved hands and suit or long sleeve clothing is proper spray attire.
The above is referring to the full mask fresh air as opposed to half mask.
