Ken:
You will not find many brake shops that would support the practice of
replacing only one caliper or rotor, always pairs. That said, I have
replaced many bad rotors one at a time with a good used one and have never
had a problem. I have frequently replaced brake pads 1/2 at a time if
necessary as they do wear irregularly. The important thing is to spend some
time bedding the pads on the rotors so they achieve maximum contact. A few
sudden stops on a back road should do the trick.
