After many months of searching for a windshield, Brian Holm was able
to acquire an original bronze one for my 1982 604TD. He had it
shipped to Salt Lake City a few weeks ago. Safelite Auto Glass
performed the installation. Before Safelite would do the work, I
sent my 604 to a body shop (MAACO) for rust removal around the
windshield. This was a common problem with the 504 and 604's of the
time. I bought the chrome windshield clips; Brian sold me the
missing chrome pieces which had come off in a wind storm in
February. After MAACO had ground the superficial rust off and POREd
(brush-on sealant, epoxy-like paint) the surrounding area, Safelite
did the install.
The results: WOW, my 604 is very quiet! I've performed some sounddeadening
measures to the 604, but now the difference is quite
obvious.
No more water-leaks behind the dash during rainstorms and car washes!
No more scratched, pitted glass, either.
Thanks to all that wrote with advice and recommendations. But, Brian
Holm at Parts for Peugeots in Vermont is now my primary source for
parts. Only through his due diligence is my 604 "waterproof" again!
