The water in the back seat is likely to be getting in around the rear
door seals. As the seals age, they shrink slightly, and loose their
elasticity, and so you end up with gaps and a poor seal. The solution is
to get a tube of windscreen gunk, remove the door seal and put a thin
bead of sealant in and then reinstall the seal making sure it is pushed
firmly on. After you have done this, you will probably end up with a gap
of around an inch at the bottom of the door where the seal joins. I
don't believe that this is an issue, but if you have a parts car, you
can cut a short bit off and stuff it in there. The join is mostly
covered by the footplate anyway. When I have done this, I have used
sealant from about half way up the front pillar, all across the top,
down the back to the bottom. This has worked well. The windscreen
sealant should remain soft, so it should be able to be removed again if
required.
