Peat,
When given the option I will typically opt for genuine Peugeot parts
for my cars but when I last needed a muffler I was advised by my then
factory source to not bother with a Peugoet one because for the price
the quality was not there. I had a local shop put in a Magnaflow (I
think) and we have been quite happy with it.
>From coments on the list it seems that there have been a few people
happy with rebuilt front driveshafts for the 405 although I don't know
how many miles they have put on them. The "rebuild" process is
somewhat crude (they hog out the knuckle (no longer a hardened
surface) and put in larger balls. We were advised by our local jobber
to stay away so we opted for new. You are correct, they are pricy but
if any car deserves them it might be a low mileage unit such as yours.
I wish that when I needed one the Canadian dollar was as strong as it
is now. I think mine cost me the better part of $1200CDN (right hand
unit)by the time it was here (exchange, shipping, taxes, duty).
