[Peugeot-L] Aluminum head corrosion

This sounds like a good arguement for using distilled water and 50% antifreeze in an aluminum engine

  Dear all,
As you may be aware from a recent post, the head gasket of my car went a few days ago and I have been in the process of getting the engine repaired (with a paint job as well, in the bargain).   When we finally managed to take the head off (after various trials and errors, since one of the bolts broke while unscrewing the head and that damn bolt just wouldn't come off!) and when we took a look, the head was in bad shape. There were pits and deposits all over the face of the head and some of the water channels had eroded all the way to the points where the piston comes in, resulting in loss of compression.
