The ujoint is bolted to the output shaft of the trans
there is a bronze/brass washer goes in first
then the bolt is staked with a punch
All 404s had the same drive train
the same drive train as all 504 SWs and 505 SWs
There are some cheapo 504 and 505 sedans with this ujoint/ Panhard rod rear suspension
but they are very rare in N America
I don't really know what you mean by: "How does the sedan 3 speed work with a u-joint driveline?"
All of the transmissions have a threaded hole in the output shaft to bolt on a ujoint.
But you will need a ujoint to match the splines in the drive shaft ie a 404 or 403
ujoint
Unless you have a 504/505 male spline welded onto the drive shaft in place of the 404.
In which case you can use the 504/505 ujoint

I figured that I needed the attachment for the u-joint from the transmission. I don't remember the sedan having the u-joint. How does the sedan 3 speed work with a u-joint driveline?

It doesn't need to be from a SW any 505 XN6 3hp22 will do
You will need a good ujoint
if you use a 505 ujoint then you will need to have the front spline from a 505 drive shaft
and get it welded onto the 404 drive shaft
if you use a 404 ujoint you shouldn't need any spline work
