Peugeot recommends the cylinderheads on 85 and older 505
XN6 and XN1 engines be retorqued and the valve clearance adjusted every 30,000 mi
or 2 years. It is likely 10 yr since this has been done here.
When I do this job, which I would do to this engine I remove the bolts one by one
clean the threads on the bolt and in the head, coat the threads with anti seize, reinstall, retorque
and adjust the valve clearance.
Then like Brian says try the pellets.
I have had better luck with the GM pellets than K&W block seal...an industry standard.

Subject: [Peugeot-L] 1985 505 GL - need advice - possible crack head or blown head gasket
Hi All,
My housmate just got the call from his mechanic that his car, 1985 505
GL, is loosing water and this water is going into the engine. So, the
mechanic thinks this is the result of a cracked head or blown head
gasket. The estimate for repair is up to $2,000. Does anyone know
how long he can drive this car in this condition? Any ideas about how
to deal with this issue without spending the 2000 bones to repair it?
Any advice will be appreciated.
