To start with, the strut springs are heavier on the diesel due to the weight. As long as you have a full doner car you should be able to obtain all the necessary parts to do the job. The tanks were in the trunk because of US crash reqirements, the diesel sedans would not have exploded on impact due to low volitility of the fuel.
