Hi Brad,
When I smogged my newly acquired '87 505 Turbo S here in California,
the smog guy I took it to told me to do this before taking the test:
idle the car for 30 minutes to an hour before the test. Don't turn it
off in between the idle period and the test. What this does is it
keeps the engine temp relatively cool, but heats up the catalytic
converter. This may help with the high combustion temps.

My cooling system is fine. The only other thing I can think of is that
my 2 year old cat converter isn't doing it's job. Do cats clean NOx or
just HC and CO?
